Welcome to "Emily in KGZ," a blog dedicated to my journey as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kyrgyz Republic serving as an English co-teacher!

Serving in the Peace Corps has been my dream for the past 4 years and I still cannot believe that this is real life. I know in the years leading up to this point, I read every single Peace Corps blog I could find. I created "Emily in KGZ" to hopefully inspire and provide information to future volunteers and anyone curious about life as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

If you're planning to follow along on my journey (which I'm hoping that you will) here's just a little information about me so you can get to know the person behind this blog:

• I am originally from Tomball, Texas (a small town outside of Houston) 

• I graduated from TCU in Fort Worth, Texas with a B.S. in Speech Language Pathology and a B.A. in Biology in May 2023

• My hobbies include hiking, rock climbing, going to concerts, supporting all things TCU and Houston sports, playing volleyball and reading (send me your book recs!)

• I am an avid Taylor Swift fan which I'm not sure how it relates to this blog, but it's an important part of my identity so I needed to include it
• Some of my other favorite artists include Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan, Harry Styles and Lizzy McAlpine but I am always looking for new music so feel free to send in your favorite artists/songs

• After the Peace Corps, I am hoping to attend medical school and work in pediatrics
• I am kind of a big science nerd and love reading medical journals plus I've always enjoyed working with children so this career seems like the best of both worlds :)
